Wushu General Association of Macau (WGAM) is the highest executive body in promoting the development of martial art sport in Macau; it was initiated by Mr. Ho Yin (Father of Mr. Ho Hau Wah) and was formally established in June 28th, 1988. The first to the fourth President of WGAM, Mr. Ho Hau Wah later served the first and second Chief Executive of Macau S.A.R, and the current President of WGAM is the Macau Legislative Councilor Mr. Fong Chi Keong; and the current Chairman of WGAM is the Vice President of Sports and Olympic Committee of Macau, China Mr. Chan Weng Kit; the previous Chairmen of the Board have had presided to Mr. Tsui Dong Hoi, Mr. Leong Vai Tac and Mr. Chan Weng Kit.

Currently, there are more than 80 affiliated associations under WGAM, with over 7000 members, 20 certified world-class referees recognized by International Wushu Federation and 20 local referees. WGAM holds martial arts competitions annually including Macau Junior Wushu Championships ,Tai Ji Competition, Mechanical Championships, and takes charge of Annual Inter-School Wushu Competition.

WGAM is a founding member of the Wushu Federation of Asia and International Wushu Federation. Over 20 years, different large-scale martial arts competitions have been successfully held in Macau, such as World Wushu Championships, the Asian Wushu Championships, Wushu Competitions in East Asian Games, Asian Junior Wushu Championships, etc. For this, the International Wushu Federation and Asian Wushu Federation specifically awarded the certificate of recognition to WGAM.

WGAM has been organizing and providing Taolu, Sanda trainings as well as intensive trainings for amateur in order to enhance the players’ technical standards to a more outstanding level. In the participation of different world-class competitions over the years, the teams of WGAM have won in total 151 medals. The best ever performance of Macau Wushu team in participation of World Wushu Championships ranked the second in the world.

WGAM presses ahead with the development of mass sport and traditional martial arts. The large-scale traditional martial arts shows held annually as well as sending teams to participate in TaoLu, Dragon and Lion International Competitions not only obtained good results but also helps to promote Macau and to expand networking.

In harmony with Macau S.A.R. Government, WGAM opened up public fitness classes and has jointly organized The Macau Wushu Youth Academy with Macau Sport Development Board to tap cultivation of talented young children and to promote martial arts as a fitness program to the public. Over the years, Macau S.A.R. Government awarded 6 executive leaders, 1 coach and 7 athletes of WGAM with Sport Merit and 11 athletes with merit commendation.
